For those of you who have been with me since the wild, genre-blurring days of Brazilian Girls, through the cinematic landscapes of Toujours and the dream world of Force Majeure, onto the screens of FX's Baskets—thank you for wandering this artistic path with me.
And if you are just arriving, welcome to the madness.
As a perpetual explorer of sounds, languages, and spaces, I have always believed that writing music is much like painting. I grew up seeing my mother paint large paintings that were twice as tall as her, wildly gesticulating with her brush to loud Bach Concertos playing on the stereo. You step up to the canvas with an inkling of an idea, but you must ultimately let the music take on its own life, and become entirely its own creature.
Deep Within the Sleeping Dragon
My third solo album, Sleeping Dragon, is deeply personal to me. Its namesake comes from an ancient book of oracle verses written by the legendary Chinese military philosopher, Zhuge Liang, whose nickname was the "Sleeping Dragon." Over the years, these verses have gifted me unexpected insights, which I eventually wove into the fabric of this record.
From the electronic, melancholic stroll of "Paris Tropical" (featuring the brilliant synth work of Jason Lindner) to the mythological, post-divorce conversation of "Adam," and with the magical collaboration with Dhani Harrison on "The stolen Kiss" this album was forged from absolute raw intuition. Some of these tracks were captured in just a single, untamed room take.
"Writing music is a voyage. After every record, by the time it's mastered, I am ready to shed my skin and try something new." — Sabina
Experience the Sound: Digital & Physical
Music in the modern world is a strange duality. It lives invisibly in the air around us, but it truly shines when it rotates on a turntable, spinning beneath a heavy needle.
If you want to support independent art and experience the album exactly as it was meant to be heard—warm, rich, and immersive—we have a limited number of the Deluxe 180-gram "Sleeping Dragon" Vinyl available in the shop, hand-signed by me.
